VOLKLINGEN HUTTE

Volklingen Hutte is a World Heritage Site, containing the intact remains of the Monumental Iron Ore Works in Saarbrucken, Germany.  When I first discovered Volklingen it reminded me of the sensational architecture of the Centre Pompidou in Paris and Lloyds Building by Renzo Piano and the late Richard Rogers in the City of London.

The influential Bernd and Hilla Becher built an amazing and monumental portfolio of Industrial Architecture over 40 years, extoling the beauty of Industrial Structures in an Architectural Design context. Their work had a massive and positive impact on me from an early age in terms of photographic meaning and documenting man’s industrial endeavours, and presenting this work as Fine Art
